My family first flew to L.A. to a conference being held by Witness Lee when I was 12 years old back in 1969. I was in a children’s meeting room looking out of a second story window observing all the adults going to the meeting hall. They were so happy and were calling audibly “Oh Lord Jesus”. It wasn’t in a cursing or vain way, but out of love and true enjoyment. For two years I contemplated this ‘calling’ and at the age of 14 I was in Atlanta in a young people’s meeting and I just let out what had been bottled up for so long. I proclaimed the name of our precious Lord with every fiber of my being. This experience changed my life!
The writings of Watchman Nee Witness Lee opened the Bible as an experiential book of life introducing Christ as a living person, to be enjoyed by man 24 hours a day. It was no longer a book of duties, do’s and don’ts. WOW! The Bible was no more about memorizing verses to get gold stars, but became a book filling my hunger and quenching my thirst. It became alive!
I’ve enjoyed Christ and I’ve been preserved as a result of this ministry. The corporate gatherings of brothers and sisters in the Lord known as the ‘local churches’ dates back to the New Testament practice. Today this has resulted in precious fellowship and growth in me as well as among many of God’s seeking ones, and is opening the word to me in such a fresh, new, and daily way.
My only regret to this day, at age 42, is my shortage of enjoying all that has been revealed in the scriptures through this precious ministry. What a hope I have, and a privilege, to give my life to the living God without reserve for the fulfillment of what He’s after on the earth.
